RELAY FOR LIFE:

The Churches of St. Casimir and Holy Name are forming teams of people to participate in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life to be held on May 30-31 at Delran High School. This "relay" is a fund-raiser designed around each team keeping at least one person walking around the track during the event.Strong participation on behalf of our new Parish Community is a great way to demonstrate our love and concern for others, while also providing an opportunity for fun an fellowship among our teams! To sign-up, or for more info, please contact Stephanie Hebert: steffiehebert@comcast.net. More info is also available at http://events.cancer.org/RFLdelranNJ.

Three major portions of this event will be a Survivors’ Lap, Survivor’s Reception and Luminaria Ceremony. The Lap honors all persons who have experienced cancer. A survivor is defined as anyone currently living with cancer, from the date of diagnosis, as well as anyone who is cancer-free today. Following the Survivors’ Lap, the survivors will be special guests for the Survivors’ Dinner. We invite all parishioners to participate if you so desire.

The Luminaria Ceremony is a particularly poignant and emotionally stirring segment of the evening. Luminarias will be placed around the track and lit when darkness falls. Ech bag carries the name of a loved one: those we remember who lost their battle, and those we honor who are still fighting the battle. Luminarias, purchased for $10, are open to the public and significant as they recognize those being honored or memorialized by the event. (Please see the form in today’s bulletin!)

Survivors wishing to participate should contact Susan French   or Louise Cochran . Luminaria forms should be mailed to the address on the form by May 14th, but may also be turned in at the Relay itself on Friday afternoon, May 30.

WHO LIKES ICE CREAM?

The Casey Club is hosting a fundraiser to benefit both St. Casimir Church and the Church of the Holy Name.  On Sunday, May 18 from 6 to 9pm anyone that buys ice cream at Lindy Hops, Homemade Ice Cream, the two churches will receive 20% of all sales.  The proceeds will be split!  Lindy Hops is located at 88 Hartford Road in Delran (across from Ott’s).  So all you have to do is gather up your family and friends, and treat them to some ice cream.  It’s as simple as that!  We want to thank the owners of Lindy Hops, Kim and Paul Sarnese for this opportunity.

A MARY DAY IN MAY:

Please come and join the St. Charles Borromeo Rosary Group on Saturday, May 10 at St. Charles Borromeo in Cinnaminson for a special day honoring Our Lady. There will be a 9:00 AM Mass followed by a meditated rosary with some singing, followed by a May Crowning and wonderful breakfast refreshments.

THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM:

This seventh Sunday of Easter is somewhat like the proverbial “calm before the storm.” The Lord Jesus has ascended into heaven and Pentecost has not yet occurred. Rather than immediately taking up Jesus’ command to go out to all the nations, the disciples gather in the upper room “with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers” (Acts 1:14). There they all devote themselves to prayer. The Gospel recounts the great prayer for the disciples that Jesus offered to his Father in heaven. If the words of Jesus while he was on earth finally began to sink in for the disciples, then gathering to pray was certainly the right choice, for the second reading lets us all know that to follow Christ means to have a share in his sufferings.
